Hogwarts Legacy takes players into the 1800s wizarding world, a time long before the events of the Harry Potter series, where they step into the role of a fifth-year student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This student is no ordinary newcomer; they possess a rare and extraordinary ability to sense and manipulate ancient magic, a force largely forgotten by modern witches and wizards. This mysterious power becomes central to a story of discovery, danger, and the battle for the future of the magical world.
The game begins with the protagonist journeying to Hogwarts with Professor Eleazar Fig, their mentor and guide, to unravel the mystery of ancient magic. The journey is interrupted by a dragon attack, which leads to the discovery of a magical Portkey that transports them to ancient ruins. These ruins reveal early signs of a hidden and powerful force tied to the protagonist’s unique abilities, setting them on a path of intrigue and peril.
Upon arriving at Hogwarts, the protagonist is sorted into one of the school’s four houses—Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff—and begins catching up on years of magical education. They attend classes in subjects like Potions, Herbology, Charms, and Defense Against the Dark Arts, all while learning to wield their extraordinary abilities. Along the way, they encounter trials created by the Keepers, a group of magical protectors who seek to safeguard the power of ancient magic from misuse.
